Q1. Do I need special computer hardware or software to participate in the surveys?


A1. No. Most KNOTs surveys are designed to run quickly and easily on most computer systems, such as on a windows machine or a Macintosh. The most important thing is that you have access to the Internet and you should have your own e-mail address.



Q2. What should I do if I experience technical problems when accessing / answering a survey?

A2. We try to make our surveys as compatible as possible with all web browsers.
Sometimes compatibility problems could still arise.
If you experience a technical problem while completing a survey, please contact us by clicking on 'the Send an e-mail' button in the Contact Us menu. Please be as specific as possible when describing your problem. We need the following details about your PC environment:

- Type and model of your computer (PC, Apple)
- Browser (including version number) (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera,...)
- Operating System (for example Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000,   Windows ME, Windows XP Home/Professional,...)
- Internet connection (Dial-up, ISDN, Broadband,…)

We will try to respond as quickly as possible to help to determine the cause of the problem.
Sometimes there is also a ‘Help’ button in the questionnaire that you can click on.



Q3. When I download the survey, the complete survey doesn’t come up. Some of the check boxes are missing, or there is no place to fill in information. What should I do?

A3. Due to heavy traffic issues or interferences on the Internet, accessing a survey can sometimes take a while. Therefore, we usually divide the questionnaire into just 1-3 questions per screen, so if you scroll to the bottom of the page and see a 'Next' button, you are all set to complete the survey. If you find that you do not have a complete survey, try to reload or refresh the survey. Please note that a survey always runs for a limited time. After a study has been closed, you will not be able to participate to the questionnaire anymore. In this case the survey will not load.



Q4. What happens if I don't find / get a connection?

A4. If access is still impossible after repeated entry, please try to modify your PC environment to accept Java script. Otherwise, please contact us with the details about your PC environment. Please be as specific as possible when describing your problem. We need the following details about your PC environment:
